How to Talk with Your Pastor About Missions
When considering global missions, it’s vital to engage your church leadership in your journey of discernment. Your pastor wants to help you grow in your spiritual walk and mature in your calling, but it can be hard to know where to start the conversation—especially if you’re still unclear about where the Lord may be leading you.
Here are some of the top questions and conversation starters that your pastor would love to hear, no matter where you are in the process:
- Can we make a plan to meet? I’d like to share my story and my heart with you.
- Does our church have organized outreach to a different culture in our community or area? How can I get involved?
- Is there someone in our church already preparing to be a missionary?
- Would you be willing to pray for me?
- Does our church support workers overseas? How can I help pray for and/or support them?
- Is there an upcoming mission/vision trip that I can participate in?
- How can I help our church reach the least reached around the world?
- What book/periodical/podcast do you recommend to help me learn more about/prepare for global ministry?
- How do I grow as a disciple-maker?
- What kind of classes, coaching, or ministry experience can I engage in at our church that will help me develop skills for missions?
